Summer Term 6. Lemons and Roses
A classic Italian themed arrangement using lemons and white flowers.
Equipment: bowl container, oasis, wood sticks.
Flowers and Foliage: lemons (about 8), larger white flowers (about 8-10: roses, hydrangeas, chrysanthemums would do), succulents in small pots (2), smaller frilly flowers.
Step 1: Wet the oasis and add to the bowl.
Step 2: Succulents: lay these down together side by side (and still in their pots) to one side of the bowl
Step 3: Lemons: Insert a stick into each lemon and arrange in a pile to one side of the bowl / succulents using the sticks to secure them to the oasis.
Step 4: Large flowers: add these in a closely knit group to the other side of the bowl / succulents, covering the oasis.
Step 5: Smaller Flowers: Use these as punctuation marks dotted in between the larger flowers and the lemons. They should add a unstructured frilly edge to an otherwise uniform bowl arrangement.
A simple one to do.
I used an antique ceramic chamber pot as a container - a broken one I acquired from one of the dealers I work with and patched back together. The trick is to artfully place the succulents, lemons and flowers in groups but without making it too formal. I think that white hydrangeas would work best for this arrangement and will try it out with them later in the season when they come into flower.
