Autumn 22. Halloween
Boxes of flowers and foliage with a Halloween theme.
Equipment: Low basket or box - a vegetable box will do, 2 x oasis blocks
Flowers and Foliage: A mixture of things depending on the theme you have chosen.
For Halloween it is small pumpkins, green foliage, twigs with moss, phsyalis, seedheads, orange chrysanthemums and a plant pot.
For the White theme it is heather and cyclamen plants, white berries and seeds, small white pumpkins, tree ivy foliage.
Step 1: Stand the 2 x wet oasis in one corner of the box. This will be used to secure the foliage and the flowers.
Step 2: Add the twigs and foliage first. Fill out the box with a dense framework of foliage but leaving space for the pot plants.
Step 3: Add the potted plants to the box keeping them in their original pots.
Step 4: Add the flowers, seed heads and berries to the oasis, filling in all the gaps and adding texture and colour to the mix.
Step 5: place the pumpkin(s) in the “showcase” position, making it the first thing you notice when you look at it.
Step 6: add the ribbon / plant pot and other decoration.
These boxes make a lovely doorstep feature which can be left out in all weathers. The design is meant to be quite natural and a bit “higgledy-piggledy”.
I missed this class so have used the images from the rest of the class. They had some great ideas.
